Let me pose a hypothetical question. Who would society collapse without: truck drivers or doctors?
Western society places a special importance on professions that only exist because of the ones behind the scenes connecting our supply chains, manufacturing our goods, extracting our resources, constructing our buildings. All the while, a large part of society turn up their noses to these men and women that account for the majority of our productivity in real terms.
These are the people often ignored, neglected, or hectored by the media and the elites. They are Ross Perot's “crazies” (in a good way) and Hillary Clinton’s “deplorables” (in a bad way).
Look at the title of this Quartz article, as an example.
I bet this author never, for a second, thought that maybe it’s the politicians and public health officials, not to mention two years of on and off lockdowns and furloughs, that are making the supply chain issues worse? I suspect when COVID hit and wrenches were thrown throughout the cogs of the economy, she was working from home in her pajamas lamenting that she had to drink Folger's instant coffee instead of a Starbucks mocha frappe. Meanwhile, they were working behind the scenes trying to clean up society's mess.
Now, it seems, we’ve reached the tipping point. Long-haulers from coast to coast are coming together and driving to Ottawa with empty trailers, full hearts, and heads filled with determination.
Even as recently as yesterday, my local “conservative” radio host was brow beating the unvaccinated. Telling these truckers to do the right thing. Why protest when there are so many open trucking jobs in the country, said he. Just get vaccinated if you want to cross the border. Instesd of protesting, why not haul a trailer full of goods across the country. It was followed by an uninformed, angry rant about the vaccines still working.
Well, today these truckers phoned in to him. They noted this is not about vaccines, this is about freedom. This is about ending two years where the Trudeau government found eroding that freedom easy. People need to be able to make a choice, wrong or right, in a free country. These truckers even switched his heart and, finally, he is talking about freedom from government overreach again.
I don’t expect they will get freedom for everyone, but I hope they get a deal that helps themselves as that will be a win for everyone in the long run. Godspeed to them.
Update: Looks like they have a Gofundme

Also, even Hutterites are standing in solidarity:
In solidarity with Canadian truckers
It's not the truckers causing Canada's food shortages. It's Justin Trudeau and his tyrannical government.
I am reading a book by Dr Vernon Coleman and in it he states, that when doctors in the UK went on strike, there were less deaths than usual. You know medical errors are the number 3 cause of death in the US too right. So no, doctors have nothing to do with society, so it seems. Truckers on the other hand, and other 'lowly' professions, are crucial to modern society. Imagine if the stockers in the store went on strike. Remember the strike of the garbage collectors? There is even a song about it! Garbage piling up in the streets, rats running around... Car mechanics, electricians, plumbers, farm workers, harvesters....
