Peter Doshi's new study published in Vaccine
A re-analysis of serious adverse events from the Pfizer and Moderna trials
A recently released study has been published in the journal Vaccine by a team that includes Peter Doshi. The study has it all. In short, it is a (thorough) secondary analysis of the serious adverse events reported in Phase III Pfizer and Moderna trials. In doing so, Doshi et al cover a lot of ground including the limitations of the data, examples of FDA malfeasance, etc.
The secondary analysis goes a long way to explaining many of the anomalies we have been seeing in real world data. For example,
“In the Moderna trial, the excess risk of serious AESIs (15.1 per 10,000 participants) was higher than the risk reduction for COVID-19 hospitalization relative to the placebo group (6.4 per 10,000 participants). [3] In the Pfizer trial, the excess risk of serious AESIs (10.1 per 10,000) was higher than the risk reduction for COVID-19 hospitalization relative to the placebo group (2.3 per 10,000 participants).”
Is anyone surprised? I highly recommend people read through the study and take it seriously.
Side note: I would be careful when quoting the “combined” results from the study. I feel there is something intuitively wrong about combining the results between two similar, but separate interventions. There is also the fact that, despite using similar definitions, the rate of adverse events in the Pfizer and Moderna trials were significantly different even in the placebo group. This could be due to many factors like age disparities, trial instructions, etc.
I ❤️Peter Doshi. He has been at this from the beginning. What a stand up human being.
This study should be earth shattering. Where are the mainstream journalists who should be all over this?
