2021-12-22 Canadian COVID Case Update

Generally, cases are up in the vaccinated today continuing this week’s trend.

Alberta

Today there were:

• 1372 1380 new cases

• 62 36 in the partially vaccinated cohort including 26 in the first 14 days

• 1105 1117 in the fully vaccinated/booster cohort

• 205 231 in the unvaccinated cohort

• 5 deaths, 3 in the fully vaccinated

That works out to 85.05% 83.7% of cases in the vaccinated population. As of Monday, the province is 78.6% vaccinated.

CORRECTION: I used official data here instead of underlying data. The official data has consistently overestimates cases in the unvaccinated for as long as I’ve been collecting Alberta data. I corrected the count.

Saskatchewan¹

Today there were:

• 105 new cases

• 1 in the partially vaccinated cohort

• 55 in the fully vaccinated/booster cohort

• 49 in the unvaccinated cohort

That works out to 53.3% of cases in the vaccinated population. As of Monday, the province is 79.4% vaccinated.

Manitoba

Today there were:

• 400 new cases

• 19 cases in the partially vaccinated cohort

• 309 cases in the fully vaccinated cohort

• 72 cases in the unvaccinated cohort

That works out to 82% of cases in the vaccinated population. Currently, the province is 80.8% vaccinated.

Ontario

Today there were:

• 4161 new cases

• 172 in the partially vaccinated cohort

• 3243 in the fully vaccinated/booster cohort

• 746 in the unvaccinated cohort

That works out to 82.07% of cases in the vaccinated population. As of Monday the province is 82.3% vaccinated.

Quebec

Today there were:

• 6361 new cases

• 285 in the partially vaccinated cohort

• 4811 in the fully vaccinated/booster cohort

• 1265 in the unvaccinated cohort

That works out to 80.11% of cases in the vaccinated population. As of Monday, the province is 84.1% vaccinated.

1. Note, this is the least reliable data of all the provinces. Saskatchewan only counts individuals as vaccinated if they are 3 weeks post first dose (all other provinces are 2 weeks). As this coincides with a period where first doses are being distributed in large numbers to the 5-11 age group, many of the unvaccinated cases likely fall into the vaccinated category. Furthermore, as the cases were quite low and the unvaccinated are forced to test for work in most places, the vaccinated cases are likely deflated in comparison.
