It has been four days since I made my most recent post on the NHL infection rate. At the time, I noted there were 115 players out of a league of approximately 800 players that had been infected in the first three months of the season.
Well.
Since then, teams have been cancelling games left and right, the NHL is increasing COVID measures, and arena capacity is being limited1. Why? 63 more fully vaccinated players have been infected in the last four days. Dozens of more fully vaccinated staff and coaches have been infected as well.
Here are the additions to the list, which bring the total players infected this year alone to 178:

Yikes! It may be prudent to start looking at re-infections in the NHL — that would be an interesting indicator of how this pandemic will go. In any case, who can say this vaccine is effective?
It should be noted that there were large breakouts last season without any fans as well… post-vaccination, by the way.
"It maybe prudent to start looking for re-infections now" - yes, and not just now, since last year December when the vaccine rolled out. To track if viral evolution is eroding herd immunity and immunization is playing a role in it either by creating new susceptibles through direct vaccination or indirect transmission to previously as yet unvaccinated but recovered individuals.
Amazing stuff. I have a feed of the keyword "Outbreak" that I track and yes, it's an unusually high number of NHL outbreaks happening now.
